Thanksgiving Highlights in NYC
It’s hard to believe but turkey time and Christmas presents are just around the corner. So, it’s not too early to start thinking about how you can enjoy Thanksgiving and the beginning of the holidays in New York City – a place like no other when it comes to celebrating the spirit of the season.
For those who choose to brave the crowds and weather, the experience of watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade live and in-person is one of the most memorable of a person’s lifetime. Wave to Hello Kitty, Spiderman, SpongeBob SquarePants, Snoopy and many other beloved characters as they drift along the parade route. The 88th annual celebration (on Nov. 27) starts at Central Park West and 77th Street, makes its way to Sixth Avenue, and then heads down to 34th Street, ending in front of Macy’s in Herald Square. Leave extra early to claim your spot on the street to watch the balloons, floats and musical performances. Click here for information on the parade route and tips on where to view all the amazing action.
You can opt to get an early peak at the balloons the night before (Nov. 26) as they are readied for parade day. This generally takes place between 3 pm and 10 pm near the American Museum of Natural History. The later you arrive, the more inflated the characters will be – a real treat for families of all ages!
If you can’t decide which day to see the balloons, make a mini-vacation out of hitting the parade! Stay with us at the Holiday Inn Manhattan View and immerse yourself (and your family) in this wonderful and timeless Thanksgiving tradition. After your parade exploration, head to friends or family to feast on turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes and all your favorite Thanksgiving treats wherever you’ll be celebrating the holiday.
